At low rpm in 1st, 2nd and reverse gears the car will shudder and eventually stall when set to automatic, if driven in manual it appears to drive fine in all situations and gears. every so often the 2008 Citroen C4 2.0 HDi Grand Picasso.
I have a 3.5yr old Grand C4 Picasso 1.6HDi VTR+ and I got the same problem morning - 'Gearbox Fault' error message and Service alert light. I was driving smoothly and suddenly the gear shifted on its own from A4 to Neutral! I have now parked by the roadside and I have called my independent Citroen speacialist.
Well it seems to be getting worse quite fast, As a started this thread the problem had only happened 3 times, now on the way home yesterday it happened a total of 5 times in an hour trip. The gearbox doesnt go down a gear when it judders, it stays in the same gear. Mainly its in 6th gear. but it happened once while shifting from 2-3.
Alec, before launching into a clutch job, try an extra earth lead (jumper) between the gearbox case and the body or battery -ve. If it comes good, suspect an earth under the battery tray and also on the gearbox. The clutch won't have a long life if the vehicle is treated as a regular auto and, say, often slipped up a steep drive in reverse. EDIT the noise is coming somewhere near the gearbox area after 5-10 secs it stops.Then i start the car and warning lights ESP-Auto brake fault. Dave_Retired. On older versions of Citroen C4 Picasso there were reliability issues related to the automatic transmission dependent on the shift actuator. Unfortunately, if you go to an authorized workshop, the cost of replacing it is quite high. While if you go to workshops that rectify gearboxes you can save something. Mon Dec 01 2008, 07:32pm. I had very bad clutch judder forst thing in the morning on my 3 year old 1.4 VTR. Citroen say 'never heard of it' and new clutch £750-800!!! A1 Clutches in Tipton West Mids said "£175 for new clutch but let me try and adjust it for nothing". Adjusted and now completely free of judder.
Now I am no expert on cars at all (hence the post on here !) but it sounded like the brake pad scraping on the disc. Once "on the move" the noise disappears. I have checked all the brake discs for "pitting, scoring" and all are smooth. However things took a strange turn in the last few days however, everytime I engage reverse gear and move off

I have recently replaced the high pressure hose that feeds the EGS gearbox actuator fluid from the reservoir as it was leaking on my 2008 C4 Grand Picasso 2.0 HDI and previously wouldn't select gear at all.
